Christine Hartley, Managing Director of Dylan Hartley Ltd recently completed the refurbishment of the proposed rectory for the Latimer Minster Project. The London project, in excess of £200K, was completed on time despite many technical difficulties. The ‘Applebarn’ site was project managed by Dylan’s son Thomas Hartley and the site management was expertly led by Phil Wintle, who has worked with Dylan over the past 20 years. Working with a local Architect, the high standard of finish has led to the company being asked to tender for more work in the Gerrards Cross area.
One of the aims of the leadership of the minster project is to help young people gain training and skills working alongside other craftsmen in a Christian environment. We were happy to work with these aims and employed two young people, Stewart Macdonald and Gary Wilson, see below. A small start but very rewarding for Latimer Minster, Dylan Hartley Ltd and the young people.
The renovation took place on a large property with a number of extension additions completed in the last thirty years or so. We uncovered numerous problems and difficulties, but thanks to the client’s commitment, the architect and structural engineers professional approach and the excellent work of our team these were successfully overcome.

Lost Boys
The project also provided an excelent opportunity to continue our work with the Lost Boys Network. From the first day to the very last we took on two apprentices, Stewart and Gary, and gave them hands-on experience of the whole project, from demolition right through to brick-laying, carpentry, electrical installation, and decorating. Working with Slough Jobcentre Plus, Stewart and Gary proved their value to the site and the client, daily cycling 10miles each way from the station to get to and from work. They both received regular coaching and feedback from the Site Manager, and were given excellent references at the completion of the project.
Stewart is now working for a construction company in the south and Gary working full-time in Maindenhead.
We look forward to working again with the Latimer Minster project.
